    Education in the 21st century has many challenges facing the pursuit of educational excellence, understood as a collective quality that dignifies and makes noble and sublime Education.<br />
    <br />
    Education is expected to contribute to the development of social cohesion and, in this sense, is an indispensable instrument for society to progress towards the ideals of peace, freedom and social justice, a service that benefits human development on equal terms, not constituting, as an additional factor of exclusion.<br />
    <br />
    But this pursuit of educational excellence is only possible if it occurs in a context of maximum quality and equality. The educational system has to create a territory conducive to the practice of social equality by contributing to the human development of students from non-discrimination, allowing everyone to have access to knowledge in equal opportunities and betting on the quality of progress.<br />
    <br />
    In this context, the education of students with autism and other developmental disorders is a challenge that, for a long time, has been raised by professionals from different fields, together with families. There has been great progress in this area, but it is necessary to continue progressing in that search for the optimal response to their needs.<br />
    The attention to autism in Spain arose in 1977 when, after an international conference held in Madrid, the first Family Associations were established and a core group of professionals led by the renowned Prof. Ángel Rivière began their specialization. The advent of democracy led to decentralization at many levels of government, and the new political actors responded to the initiatives put forward by users. The new laws on social services favored an integrative approach to disabilities and, in parallel, a tendency towards non-exclusion and the response of students on the basis of the establishment of supports in the ordinary school was accepted.<br />
